José Carlos Cavalcanti is an Associate Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) (Pernambuco, Brazil) and teaches Economics at the Center of Informatics of this university. He has a Civil Engineering undergraduate degree from the UFPE (Pernambuco/Brazil), a MSc degree on Urban and Regional Planning from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), and a PhD degree on Economic History from the Manchester University (Manchester, England). His research focuses on technology (particularly information and communication technologies) and innovation economics. He has published many articles in the fields of economics and information systems in Brazil and elsewhere. He has several years of experience in government positions and undertakes consultancy work.
